Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This month, Dr Lewis Obi and staff would like to remind our patients that a healthy lifestyle goes a long way towards the prevention of all cancers. A high BMI, (obesity) is perhaps the most significant risk factor for breast cancer. Fat is related to high levels of estrogens and insulin-like growth factors associated with obesity. Diets high in red meats, carbs, sugars, fast foods, etc. are definitely risk factors for most cancers and other diseases. On the opposite side, there are specific biologic mechanisms which explain the protective effects of diets high in vegetables and fruits, vitamins, fiber,
supplements and a normal BMI.

LEADING THE FIGHT

Dr Lewis Obi has been on the forefront of reconstructive breast surgery for many years. Dr. Obi has introduced a number innovations that have integrated major new technology into his practice to help recovering breast cancer survivors return to their former selves.

During the month of October Dr. Obi will be providing free initial consultations and 3D imaging that allow patients to see the results of their breast procedure before surgery. This is a great opportunity to speak with a leading plastic surgeon about the breast procedure you’ve been considering for free!

One of Dr. Obi most significant advancements in breast surgery was his introduction of the use of lasers. Dr. Obi was the first plastic surgeon to perform a “Scarless Breast Lift”, (below) using Palomar’s SlimLipo platform almost eight years ago. Dr. Obi uses the SlimLipo laser in a number of procedures including fat reduction, (Lipo) often performed / combined with breast surgery.

Breast Implant Revision with Gummy Bear Implants

Seri™ Silk

Other recent innovations in breast surgery includes the use of Seri™ silk mesh as a tissue thicker and stem cell scaffold in patients with thin tissues either from mastectomies are multiple breast implant
procedures. Below are results in a mastectomy patients with implant loss after MRSA infection at another hospital. The use of SlimLipo breast lift/body sculpting, silk mesh with stem cells and 410 (gummy bear) implants planned with 3D imaging produced the below results.

Scarless Breast Augmentation

Finally, Dr Lewis Obi is one of the few plastic surgeons in the U.S. who uses a scarless peri-areolar incision in all of the breast augmentations he performs, including augmentations with the Natrelle 410 Shaped Gel Implants. While this incision is commonly avoided by plastic surgeons for fear of nipple numbness, Dr. Obi’s technique allows him to make this incision without damage to milk glands behind the nipple, rarely causing any numbness, and with barely visible scars. Perhaps the most beneficial aspect of this type of implant insertion is that the implant can be position under all four muscles which avoids malpositioning and other issues that occur over time.
