History of Breast Implant Surgery and Dr. Obi’s Experience
Drs. Cronin and Gerow of Houston developed the first silicone gel implants and I became acquainted with these while in medical school. Because of the early problems with silicone implants, I began using the French manufactured saline filled implants early in my practice. This was a wise decision on my part because the silicone gel implants were eventually removed from the market by the FDA in 1992. With my experience in both saline and gel implants, I became a tracking surgeon for the FDA and have continued doing that for 24 years. Last year with the introduction of the –fifth generation of gel implants” I became one of the first providers of the Natrelle Style 410 –gummy bear” implants. Also, I became a provider for Silimed’s Sientra™ super cohesive implants. A few weeks ago I was provided some of the first Seri Surgical Scaffold™ silk mesh which is a tremendous tool for breast implant reconstruction. Along with the use of the LJO scarless laser breast lift and stem cell enhanced fat grafting, I am providing a combination of the most advanced breast procedures in plastic surgery.

This is complicated by the numerous brands available and the variability in choices by plastic surgeons. It is surprising to me when
