What Treatments Are Available for Wrinkles and Loose Skin?

Thursday June 26th, 2014

Fat may not have a very favorable reputation, but it’s an essential factor in a youthful appearance. As you get older, the fat in your face begins to diminish, resulting in skin that wrinkles, droops and sags. A number of treatments are available for wrinkles and loose skin, and Dr. Lewis Obi can help you determine which may be most effective for you.

Facelifts and Neck Lifts

Significant amounts of loose skin in the facial area can respond well to a facelift. Also known as a rhytidectomy, this cosmetic procedure involves lifting the soft tissues of the face, removing excess skin, and sculpting or redistributing underlying fat and tissues in your facial area. Sometimes fat may be taken from another part of your body and added to specific facial areas. The skin is then repositioned over the re-contoured areas and stitched back into place.

A neck lift involves a similar procedure done in the neck area.

Facelifts can be helpful in cases where:

  • Facial skin is loose
  • The face and neck have lost excess fat and definition
  • Cheeks are sagging
  • Creases are deepening below eyelids, around chin and lower lip
  • The eyes are hollow and sunken; mouth and lips deflated and wrinkled
  • Jowls are forming from excess skin hanging from the lower jaw line
  • Bands of skin in the neck area are visible

The OPERA Lift

While the OPERA Lift can produce results as notable as a traditional facelift, it provides a more economical and less invasive alternative. The OPERA Lift is a procedure developed by Dr. Lewis Obi working in conjunction with Palomar Medical Technology Inc. The OPERA lift combines fat removal from unwanted areas, facial tightening and a stem-cell-concentrated fat grafting system to produce the same type of results a traditional facelift offers but without the extensive incisions and healing period.

Patients can opt for the OPERA Lift Minor or OPERA Lift Major. The OPERA Lift Major provides a larger volume of stem cell fat grafting. It also incorporates platelet rich plasma, or PRP, from the patient’s blood to reduce bruising and enhance the fat graft. Finally, laser (life sculpt™) tightening of loose neck skin is also included with the Opera Lift plus.

LJO Brow Lifts and Eyelid Lifts

If the sagging skin is around your outer brow, a brow lift can help. Dr. Obi created a specialized procedure known as the LJO Brow Lift that lifts only the tail of the brow, avoiding potential overcorrection that can come with traditional brow lifts that lift the forehead skin.

Eyelid surgery, known as blepharoplasty, can correct sagging eyelid skin. It’s often used in conjunction with other procedures, such as the brow lift or facelift.

Lifts are not limited to the face and neck areas. Body lifts can be done to correct sagging skin in various bodily areas, as can specific p
