Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Skin Rejuvenation
(Part 3 of 4)

The Palomar Icon delivers a precise pulse of light energy that is absorbed to the skin to lighten brown freckles and sun damage and fade generalized facial redness. IPL uses pulses of light similar to a very powerful camera flash. This therapy effectively reduces sunspots, skin discoloration and superficial blood vessels as well as the redness and flushing from rosacea. Sun damage and brown spots of the chest and hands may also be treated.

Some patients note subtle improvements in skin texture and pore size with a single treatment. IPL treatments are performed in the clinic and usually last from 30-45 minutes. Areas most often treated are the face, chest and hands, however any area of the body with sun damage can be treated. Following treatment, the skin may become light red and feels like a mild sunburn for several hours. Brown spots become darker and usually flake off in 7-10 days. Make-up may be applied the following day and normal activity resumed immediately. Three treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart are necessary to achieve optimal benefits.
