Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP) – Another First for the Obi Plastic Surgery Clinic & Jacksonville: an Autologous Procedure that Enhances Fat Grafting and Other Plastic Surgery Procedures.
Preparation for Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy with the Magellan Autologous Platelet Separator System.
During anesthesia, 60 cc of the patient’s blood is concentrated with the Magellan enclosed sterile unit to a teaspoon of clear solution rich in platelets, growth factors and stem cells. This is then added to the Adivive stem cell fat to enhance survival of the grafted cells and to minimize bruising. Dr. Lewis Obi also utilizes Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy to enhance the results of surgical procedures such as face lifts, tummy tucks and breast reconstruction.
Platelet-rich plasma Therapy, (PRP) is blood plasma that has been enriched with platelets. As a concentrated source of autologous, (your own) platelets, PRP contains (and releases through degranulation) several different growth factors and other cytokines that stimulate healing of bone and soft tissue. There are at least 10 cytokines and different growth factors in PRP and these are activated during processing with the Magellan™ system. Platelet-rich plasma therapy was first introduced in the area of open heart surgery and orthopedic procedures such as bone grafting. More recently, PRP was added to various fillers in the so-called “Vampire Lift” and also to treat orthopedic injuries.
This innovative combination of techniques serves to further Dr. Obi’s reputation for advancing patient satisfaction with new technology and achieving synergistic cosmetic results. Combining PRP with Dr. Obi’s Exclusive Non-Invasive OPERA Lift Face lift, (right) is an example of this synergy. An international press release discussing Dr. Obi’s new and innovative combination of techniques was published on July 25th, 2012. Read the Full Press Release >>
