Master of Many Disciplines

Aphrodite Painting Dr. Obi's germinal interest in art was captured by his quote, "After all, medicine's contribution to art is the art of plastic surgery."  In the mid 1980s, Dr. Lewis Obi established the international art firm Obiarts, Inc. and soon after was inducted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Art in London (FRSA).

In addition to the visual arts, Dr. Obi's Marine Corp discipline continues today.  Before starting his day in plastic surgery, Dr. Obi maintains his skills as a martial artist (3 black belts) and runner (3 marathons) which maintains his focus and proficiency in his life's dedication as a plastic surgeon.

Dr. Obi and Martial Arts InstructorDr. Obi remains on the cutting edge of new techniques in numerous areas of both aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery.  His cumulative repertoire of rejuvational facial procedures combined with new techniques of fat grafting and laser tightening provides patients with endless possibilities.

This versatility is especially useful in the area of body sculpting thereby providing magnified results with less invasive procedures and therefore less downtime.

Reconstructive Breast Surgery and Cancer Treatment

Experience shows immediate reconstruction is safe, and does not delay cancer treatment.  A large study, as published in July 2011 in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the official journey of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), concluded that reconstruction of the breast at the time of mastectomy has a low risk of complications and does not cause undue delays in cancer treatment.

This study is one of the largest to date and suggests that immediate reconstruction is safe and well tolerated by patients and does not lead to an increase in complications, even when radiation was needed, as compared to mastectomy alone.  While many reconstructive methods are available, the patients in this study were mainly reconstructed using the abdominal flap (TRAM) procedure.

This study should reassure women with breast cancer, and their surgeons, that immediate reconstruction is a safe and beneficial alternative to waiting weeks or even months for reconstruction.
