Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) – Another First for the Obi Plastic Surgery Clinic & Jacksonville: an Autologous Procedure that Enhances Fat Grafting and Other Plastic Surgery Procedures.

Preparation of Platelet-Rich Plasma with the Magellan Autologous Platelet Separator System
During anesthesia, 60 cc of the patient’s blood is concentrated with the Magellan enclosed sterile unit to a teaspoon of clear solution rich in platelets, growth factors and stem cells. This is then added to the Adivive stem cell fat to enhance survival of the grafted cells and to minimize bruising. Dr. Lewis Obi also utilizes PRP to enhance the results of surgical procedures such as face lifting, tummy tucks and breast surgeries.
What is PRP?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is blood plasma that has been enriched with platelets. As a concentrated source of autologous platelets, PRP contains (and releases through degranulation) several different growth factors and other cytokines that stimulate healing of bone and soft tissue. There are at least 10
cytokines and different growth factors in PRP and these are activated during processing with the Magellan™ system. Platelet-rich plasma was first introduced in the area of open heart surgery and orthopedic procedures such as bone grafting. More recently, PRP was added to various fillers in the so-called "Vampire Lift" and also to treat orthopedic injuries.

PRP Utilized for Non Invasive Facelifts, Pioneered by Dr. Lewis Obi and Palomar
What is truly innovative with Dr. Obi, is the novel combination of established safe and effective technologies to achieve synergic cosmetic results. The OPERA Lift (Obi Palomar External Rejuvenational Aesthetics) is an example of this synergy. On July 25th, 2012 an international press release was submitted around some of these innovations.

Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy Cost
The additional cost to the patient for adding PRP to their surgical procedure is approximately $750. Use of PRP for sports injuries and other indications results in a much higher cost to the patient which is not covered by insurance. Dr. Obi only recommends the use of PRP only if is cost efficient and he has no financial interests in this technology. If you are curious about the cost of PRP or would like to integrate it into your next procedure, please fill out our contact form and one of our associates will return your inquiry shortly.
