Palomar Starlux Pulsed Light System

The Palomar StarLux Pulsed Light System offers a full spectrum of aesthetic treatments with one compact system. This is done by attaching different handpieces to the StarLux base unit, each optimized for different applications.

Examples of these various applications include:

1. Palomar Pulsed Light Permanent Hair Reduction
   Palomar Pulsed light systems use a much large treatment window than most systems. This spreads light over a wider area of skin and allows faster coverage of the skin and quicker more comfortable treatments as a result.
2. Palomar LuxY Pigmented Lesion Destruction
   This system uses pulsed light to treat pigmented lesions, including rosacea, by heating the melanin. Therefore, causing the lesion to naturally slough as the skin exfoliates.
3. Palomar LuxG Vascular Lesion Degeneration
   The pulsed light is used to treat vascular lesions, such as superficial facial and leg veins. The absorbed light causes thermal action, resulting in the degeneration and disappearance of visible vessels.

Light-Based Aesthetic Treatments Gain in Versatility and Popularity

If you live with unwanted hair, sun damage, facial or leg veins, or rosacea, you may be surprised to find out that these conditions can all be treated with the same light-based technology. “Most people are familiar with laser hair removal or some other form of light-based hair reduction,” say Dr. Lewis Obi. “But few know how versatile light-based treatments have become. We’ve gotten to the point where one system can treat unwanted hair, sunspots, spider veins, leg veins, rosacea and more. It’s a tremendous advantage to both doctor and patient to treat all of these conditions without having to use multiple devices or refer the patient to another practitioner.”

“I use the Palomar StarLux Pulsed Light System myself,” explains Dr. Lewis Obi. “Though they are similar to lasers, pulsed light systems use a much large lens than lasers. This spreads more light over a larger area of skin and allows faster coverage of the skin and quicker treatments as a result.”

During treatments, filtered light is directed onto the skin and absorbed by the melanin in hair or pigmented lesions and the blood in visible vessels. The light heats the pigment and disables the hair follicles and the cells that produce the pigment. In the case of vessels, the light is absorbed by the hemoglobin in the veins, causing them to shrink and fade from view. “The StarLux cools the skin allowing for safe and effective treatments,” say Dr. Lewis Obi. “Most patients describe the light pulses as a ‘snapping’ sensation, which causes mild discomfort at most. After the treatment, there may be some redness for a few days, but that quickly fades and the patient can enjoy the effects of smoother, clearer skin, with improved tone and texture.”

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is an injection treatment used to eliminate spider veins in the legs. The abnormal veins are injected with a concentrated solution using a very small needle resulting in only mild discomfort. This procedure causes the veins to gradually shrink and fade away. Experienced sclerotherapists work with patients to provide safe and effective treatments to lessen the appearance of varicose and spider veins, helping to make legs more attractive. With sclerotherapy available, there is no reason you can't have the lovely legs you've always wanted. Although this technique is time-tested and causes little discomfort, at Renaissance you always have the added assurance of an on-hand physician to address any questions or concerns.

Microdermarasion

Microdermarasion is a skin-freshening technique that helps repair facial skin that takes a beating from the sun and the effects of aging. Our aesthetician uses a device like a fine sandblaster to spray tiny crystals across the face, mixing gentle abrasion with suction to remove the dead, outer layer of skin. As with other skin rejuvenation techniques, more than one treatment may be needed to reduce or remove fine wrinkles and unwanted pigmentation

Chemical Peels

Lymphatic Massage

Lymphatic Massage has been used for years to enhance the quality of the skin and is used at the Renaissance Center to aid in the reduction of edema after surgery by enhancing the tissue regeneration process which keeps the tissue as healthy as possible. It is thought that lymphatic massage can also help the scarring process by enhancing circulation and immunity.

Juvéderm™

Fat Injections

Removal of Brown Spots on the Skin

Through our patented innovations, including Smooth Pulse^SM technology, our LuxG^TM, LuxY^TM, LuxYs^TM, and LuxV^TM pulsed light handpieces can safely deliver optimally-filtered wavelengths of pulsed light to clear pigmented lesions with superior patient comfort – with results as good as or better than the single-application "gold standard" lasers.

Mechanism of Action:
Specially filtered bands of light target the melanin in pigmented lesions, where the light is converted into heat. This heating selectively destroys the pigmented lesion, which is sloughed away, clearing the lesion within two weeks.

Advantages:

• Specific wavelengths of light can target pigmented lesions on most skin types.
• Our handpieces can quickly treat large areas of the body with little discomfort and no downtime.

Leg Vein Treatments

Palomar’s patented Smooth PulseSM and Advanced Contact Cooling^SM technologies allow our Lux1064+^TM Laser Handpiece to treat leg veins with superior patient comfort while ensuring excellent patient satisfaction.

Mechanism of Action:
To clear leg veins, the vessels must be constricted. A 1064nm wavelength laser sends energy into the blood and vessel walls, where it is absorbed by hemoglobin. The hemoglobin is heated by the absorption of energy, and the vessel coagulates and closes off. The constricted vessel then degenerates, and the visible leg veins disappear from the surface of the skin.

Advantages:

• The 1064nm wavelength is optimal for the deeper absorption of light in blood vessels.
• A variety of spot sizes and energy options provides for effective treatment of both the smaller red and larger purple or blue reticular vessels.

Fractional Laser Treatment

Application:
Fractional Non-Ablative Skin Resurfacing

The Lux1540 delivers an array of high-precision microbeams, creating deep, narrow columns of coagulation in the epidermis and dermis. A restorative, natural healing process is then initiated, accelerating the formation of healthy new tissue.

• A skin resurfacing option with little to no downtime — patients can typically return to their daily activities with minimal redness or discomfort.

Photofacials

To minimize pores, brownspots, fine lines and wrinkles, and facial veins.

Our photorejuvenation process uses the optimal wavelength of light to clear vascular and pigmented lesions by targeting hemoglobin (for vascular lesions) and melanin (for pigmented lesions). Once the light is absorbed as heat by the lesion, the lesion disappears.

Advantages:

• Photorejuvenation is effective on the face, arms, chest, and other large body areas, with no patient downtime.
• Our process can remove damage caused by years of sun exposure and minimize the effects of aging.

Permanent Hair Reduction

Our pulsed light handpieces perform permanent hair reduction with increased speed, due to their large spot sizes, and superior efficacy, with our patented Photon Recycling and Advanced Contact Cooling technologies.

In addition to pulsed light hair removal, Palomar’s Lux1064+^TM laser offers safe hair removal on tan and dark skin for smaller areas such as the face and neck. Available exclusively with the StarLux® 500 laser and pulsed light system, the Lux1064+^TM is the perfect choice for hair removal on dark skin.

Mechanism of Action:
Permanent hair reduction is achieved when the cells responsible for growing new hair are disabled. The 1064 nm wavelength, or alternatively, pulses of light at specific wavelengths, can target the pigment in hair follicles which absorb the light energy as heat.

Advantages:

• 1064 nm wavelength can safely and effectively treat the face and neck in very dark skin, including skin types V & VI.
• Specific wavelengths of light can target both finer and coarser hair as well as lighter hair, on all skin types.
• Different spot sizes and concentrations of power can treat large areas of hair as well as smaller areas, such as underarms and bikini lines.
