With the demise of our economy in 2007, Dr. Lewis Obi was one of the first plastic surgeons in the world to adopt the latest advanced technology including Palomar’s SlimLipo laser platform. He was also awarded the first FDA approved MediKan fat processing unit better known as Lipokit/Adivive. These two technologies led to minimally invasive and lower cost non-surgical procedures allowing patients to return to work in a matter of days. The non-surgical OPERA facelift, scar-less breast lifts, nonsurgical tummy tucks are only a few of Dr. Obi’s innovations. By the summer of 2014, Dr. Lewis Obi had completed almost 1000 SlimLipo and Adivive procedures. Due to the acquisition of Palomar by Cynosure, these two modalities are no longer marketed or manufactured in the U.S. This places Dr. Lewis Obi in a unique position because he will continue to actively utilize these most advanced devices that he helped to develop and promote.
The use of lasers and adipose derived stem cells led to the affiliation of Dr. Lewis Obi with the Cell Surgical Network (CSN) based in California. Co-founder Dr. Mark Berman of L.A. and Dr. Lewis Obi have lectured on the same podium for almost five years. This led to Dr. Obi becoming an affiliate member of CSN and joining the IRB (Investigational Review Board) protocol studying the safety and efficacy of Stromal Vascular Fraction (adult stem cells). SVF and PRP (platelet rich plasma) are important areas of study in all areas of therapeutic and regenerative medicine. The use of 3D printer scaffolds as carriers for stem cells holds tremendous promise for the future of medicine and Dr. Obi is actively involved. Also, we were the first in Jacksonville to integrate the Canfield’s Vectra™ 3D imaging camera system which allows patients to see results prior to surgery.
With all of these advances, Dr. Lewis Obi has become one of the foremost plastic surgeons in the U.S. He continues to learn the most up to date plastic surgery techniques including the use of lasers, adult stem cells and safe anesthetic techniques. Because of his Pharmacy degree and background, Dr. Obi was one of the first plastic surgeons to develop and promote safe conscious sedation.
Also Dr. Lewis Obi has lectured internationally at numerous symposia and meetings in recent years and continues to write and publish. In the summer of 2014, a major book published by Springer publications will feature a chapter by Dr. Obi on the aesthetic and reconstructive uses of stem cell enhanced fat. In 2013 and 2014, he was the lead physician in Jacksonville Magazine’s “Top Docs”.
